Some fascinating video of Dr. Tony Youn doing real surgery- this isn’t Hollywood TV, it’s the real deal. One of the amazing things of the advent of technology such as YouTube is that you can see “real” video as opposed to the world of make believe. These videos can be excellent educational resources. If you are considering a cosmetic surgery procedure for yourself you can see real world examples of what to expect and what the doctor will be doing. Remember- always consult only a licensed physician or similar medical care provider before undergoing any medical procedure. Do your homework and seek the best trained and licensed and accredited professional that you can find- don’t shop based on cost or location alone.

Several news agencies are reporting that the cosmetic surgeon who taped the late Anna Nicole Smith’s breast augmentation surgery is attempting to sell the tape to a memorabilia dealer. A judge issued a temporary restraining order against the release of the 1994 tape at the request of Howard K. Stern. The surgeon stated that he routinely records surgeries with the patient’s permission and promised to keep the video confidential “during the patient’s lifetime.”

It is actually a very common medical practice for the doctor to take before and after photos of surgery patients, and only use the photos with their consent. I can’t fathom a physician trying to use this tragedy to make money. It’s a shame.

One of the inevitable issues you will face when considering plastic surgery is the cost. Since cosmetic surgery most often falls under “elective” procedure guidelines - medical insurance will often not cover it as it would other treatments. This often leads to patients having to negotiate a “cash” price with their treating physician and can lead to a form of medical sticker shock of plastic surgery for specific procedures. However, people make choices to invest in higher education or to spend on a vacation for relaxation and plastic or cosmetic surgery can be thought of in somewhat similar terms. It is something that you are often choosing to do for “you”.

Plastic Surgery Sticker Shock

It goes without saying that discussing the “average” of anything is potentially a dangerous task to undertake. In our capitalist economy, prices are dependent on a variety of factors including location, qualification of the plastic surgeon, the number of surgeons in the area and so on. You must do your homework and always put the quality of your health care first when considering any medical procedure. This however does not mean that different doctors and clinics and facilities can not offer top quality care and also be cost competitive.

A list such as the following regarding the prices of plastic surgery procedures are to be used as a guideline only and are really just “ball park” type of numbers from which you can begin your research and interviewing of medical doctors and their practices and clinics. Plastic surgeons in your area may charge exactly these prices, a bit more or a bit less. These numbers will give you a range to consider, but comparing costs quoted by the plastic surgeons you evaluate in your area is the only way to determine the going rate in your town or city. With this premis in mind, following are procedures and the stick shock prices you might expect to find.

Typical Liposuction - approximately $3,000 to $5,000

Typical Breast Augmentation: approximately $3,500 to $8,000

Typical Rhinoplasty: approximately $4,000 to $8,000

Typical Botox: approximately $300 each location

Typical Eyelid Lift: approximately $3,000 to $6,000

Typical Facelift: approximately $7,500 to $15,000

Typical Tummy Tuck: approximately $5,000 to $10,000

Typical Collagen Injections: approximately $400 to $700

The above procedures tend to be the most popular as of the writing of this article. There are variations to each and entirely new procedures are being offered all of the time. In general, the more specific or new the procedure, the more you are going to pay.

Having put forth the above prices, it is important that you understand something very clearly. Plastic surgery will improve your appearance, but it is a medical procedure like any other. Your body will be modified. Just like you would not select a heart surgeon based on their fees, you should not do so with plastic surgeons. If you find a multiple surgeons you are comfortable with, pricing can be a factor. It should never be the primary factor.

Although the above prices may be cause a bit of sticker shock, plastic surgery costs have actually come down significantly over the last 15 years. Also, there are a wide variety of financing and payment plan options available today- see our page links to learn more about cosmetic/plastic surgery financing.

Susan Johnson recently underwent a breast enhancement procedure and made use of a financing plan to accomplish her goal, ” I am not sure I would have been able to meet my cosmetic surgery goal if there had not been excellent financing options available. My doctor and his practice made the financing information available and then I completed the financing qualification process prior to my procedure.”

Always consult a licensed medical doctor or similar medical professional before undergoing any medical procedure.

Baltimore is the largest city in the state of Maryland in the United States. Baltimore is located in central Maryland at the head of the tidal portion of the Patapsco River, an arm of the Chesapeake Bay, and is approximately 40 miles northeast of Washington D.C.. Founded in 1729, Baltimore is a major U.S. seaport and is situated closer to major Midwestern markets than any other major seaport on the East Coast. Baltimore’s Inner Harbor has always remained a major asset, once the second leading port of entry for immigrants to the United States and a major manufacturing center. Today the harbor is home to Harborplace and the National Aquarium in Baltimore and is a successful example of Baltimore’s ambitious efforts at renewal. Following the fall of many of its largest manufacturing industries, Baltimore has shifted primarily to a service sector-oriented economy, with the largest employer no longer Bethlehem Steel but Johns Hopkins University and Johns Hopkins Hospital.

The city is named after Lord Baltimore in the Irish House of Lords, the founding proprietor of the Maryland Colony. Baltimore himself took his title from a place named Baltimore in Ireland, meaning “Town of the Big House” and referring to the O’Driscoll castle that still dominates the town.

Baltimore equals a rich combination of cultural diversity, a thriving economic base and growing cosmopolitan population - this makes Baltimore a key center for the practicing of the arts of cosmetic, plastic and other enhancement surgeries in the greater U.S East Coast area. Baltimore, with its rich culture and diversity draws top medical talent from around the country and high end clients travel from all over the world to visit the cities spas, clinics and top rated hospitals and clinics. Johns Hopkins gives Baltimore a world class anchor in terms of a combination hospital, research facility and University and teaching facility. Considering cosmetic or plastic surgery and live in the greater East Coast United States area - then you should put Baltimore on your top list of cities with world class facilities to investigate.

Always consult a licensed physician or similar medical care provider before undergoing any medical procedure.

Breast enhancement is one easy way to obtain immediate gratification to improve your self-confidence and image. Breast augmentation recovery involves the importance of resting, taking medication, not lifting weights or exercising, use of compression garment, and then a good bra. However, many people may not understand the importance of finding a post surgery bra that fits properly and gives you the correct amount of support.

Advantages to the Right Post Breast Surgery Bra
The right after breast augmentation bra does not only reduces swelling, but positions the breasts correctly on the chest, shortens recovery time, improves blood circulation, and helps to flush potentially harming body fluid to help maintain beautiful breasts. Alternatively, if you are not wearing suitable garment, you may end up with a backache, thinning skin on your breasts, and or sagging breast, and no women wants that!

Breast Augmentation Recovery Garments

Your bra size and type will vary throughout the healing process. In the beginning of recovery, you want to ensure you have the best support possible with the littlest amount of pain. Your plastic surgeon will advise compression garment. Compression garments assist in minimizing the throbbing sensation, discomfort, and pain. After your first week or so of breast augmentation surgery, another type of support garment may be suggested by your plastic surgeon and the final suggestion might be a sports bra. Sport bras firmly hold the breasts in place providing comfort, with a little less support then a compression garment, but still just enough. Soon enough you will be ready for a no under wire bra with less reinforcement.

Bra Selection for Breast Augmentation Patients is something you should discuss with your breast enhancement physician and post care nurse. Crystal Lewis discussed her bra needs with her follow up nurse and found a wealth of information and brochures available.

Selecting the right bra is not always the easiest thing to do after a breast augmentation. However, it is possible. There are many factors that can help you in finding the bra that best fits your new breast augmentation look. When deciding on the right bra, you want to keep in mind not only the band and cup size determine if it is appropriate for you, but also the location of your breasts as they sit in the cup and how they are positioned. Additionally, bras with under wire are not to be worn any sooner then six weeks after your procedure and then on are only to be worn on occasion.

Always consult a licenses physician or similar medical care provider before undergoing any medical procedure.

Big, beautiful lips seem to be on the wish list of many Hollywood celebrities, average people, and some who are just unhappy with their thin-lipped reality.

There are many ways to plump up even the thinnest of lips, some more permanent than others.

Lips galore
Does anyone remember what Meg Ryan looked like before she got her permanent fat lip? Can anyone watch Lisa Rinner’s mouth for too long?

Beautiful lips do not have to mean the Hollywood-style puffer-fish lip job. In fact, there’s a wider choice of lip procedures available today than ever before, providing beautiful, natural-looking results.

Lip Augmentation
Lip augmentation can be either permanent or temporary, depending on the wishes of the patient. Many people choose a temporary procedure first, to see if they like the results.

The lip cosmetic surgery procedure - typically, is done either under a general or local anaesthetic, the procedure usually produces no perceptible scarring and heals very quickly. One substance commonly used is fat, harvested from other parts of the body, which is then purified before it is injected into the lips. The advantage of this procedure is that it uses your own body’s components, so no foreign matter is being injected.

Other substances include SoftForm implants. This is permanent, as it doesn’t shrink and isn’t absorbed into the body. Because scar tissue forms at both ends of the implants, it also stays in place.

Lip Roll
This too is a permanent procedure that enlarges the lip by making a small incision behind the lip hidden in the fold. This creates a more uniform look of fullness to upper and lower lips.

The Paris Lip
Using the hyaluronic acid implants, a natural component of skin, this procedure is used to enhance the natural shape of the lip. Because hyaluronic acid is re-absorbed by the body, regular treatments every 3-6 months will be needed. The Paris lip is used more to define the outline of the lip, and does not plump up the fleshy part of the lip. It’s a very quick procedure, and may also be used to smooth the outline of the mouth, particularly good for people who have smoker’s lines.

Dermal fillers also using a highly purified form of hyaluronic acid can be used to plump the lip.

Other fillers
Gel products, which not only plump the lip but also define the outline of the lip, are being more commonly used. Philturm ridges can also be defined using the gel injection.

Protein products can be injected with small needles, but as they are re-absorbed by the body, regular treatments once every 1-3 months will be needed.

Injectable implants are also available, using ultra-fine needles. These don’t require an anaesthetic, as they are virtually painless. They also have no recovery time, and life can carry on as normal immediately.

Costs for the procedures vary a great deal, but in the end, weighing the recurring costs of temporary treatments with the one-off cost of a permanent procedure is necessary. Commonly, however, it will be recommended by a cosmetic surgeon that a temporary procedure is undergone first, just to see if it’s what you’re after.

Always consult only a licensed medical doctor or similar medical practitioner when considering any medical procedure.

Breast reduction, also known as Reduction Mammoplasty, accounts for over 80,000 procedures performed each year, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. This is a very significant number and represents women with larger breast sizes usually D cup or larger. The majority of patients are looking for a c cup bra which is usually the right cup size to alleviate pain associated with enlarged breasts, improve body proportions and offer complimentary appearance . Breast reduction surgery is offered to improve the patients quality of life.

Dr. Jacobson has found that individuals usually seek breast reduction because of medical conditions associated with enlarged breasts, including, back, neck and shoulders pain or discomfort. Other symptoms resulting from enlarged breasts are: shoulder indentations from wearing bras, discoloration of the skin, inframammary rash, kiposis, mastodynia (breast pain), and a psychological impact due to esthetic considerations. Some of these conditions often cause interference with daily life activities.

Breast reduction may be performed on patients 16 years of age or older. A significant breast reduction equates to excision of more than 500 gr (1 pound) of glandular tissue in each breast. Extreme cases involve an excision of 5 pounds or more. Typically breast reduction surgery is done under intra Venus sedation or General Anesthesia. In some cases, breast reduction can be accomplished under local anesthesia.

Breast incisions are typically located around the areolas and an inverted T incision under the areolas. Sometimes, the horizontal incision between the areolas and the infra mammary creases can be eliminated. The most popular technique involves inferiors or superior pedicels that preserve the blood supply to the breast and areolar tissues.

Breast reduction surgical outcomes are appreciated by over 90% of patients, regardless of the scar quality. The new look resulting from breast reduction surgery accentuates the natural feminine body curvatures and the comfort level for patients.

Many web sites are available to view before and after breast reduction photos so you can better understand what to expect. A qualified breast reduction doctor will also have a sampling of before and after photos for you to view at his office. When you decide to come in for a consultation, you’ll receive more detailed information about the procedure, invited to participate for screening to have the procedure and feel well equipped to make a decision about breast reduction.

Always consults a licensed medical professional for any medical procedure.

For some people considering cosmetic surgery, it has been a common practice to combine an exotic vacation with cheap plastic surgery. The rarely publicized outcome of many such vacations is a botched procedure by a non board-certified, under-trained physician. Unfortunately, Susan Johansen found this out the hard way as do many patients who have traveled to abroad with the hopes of saving money on their surgery while recuperating in paradise have found the old saying “You Get What You Pay For” all too true!

Most foreign countries have lower medical standards and less quality control than the United States. While many patients have successful procedures in such countries, should there be a problem with the specific surgery, the outcome can be devastating and costly.

“In our practice, we’ve seen patients return from one of these trips with serious infections, horrible disfigurements and other life-threatening maladies,” said Dr. David Goldenberg, a cosmetic and re-constructive plastic surgeon at Advanced Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery in Ridgefield, CT. “Unfortunately, reversing and repairing these procedures can be extremely painful and cost the patient much more in terms of time and money than just seeking out a board certified doctor close to home from the onset.”

The most popular destinations by ranking for cosmetic surgery tourism include Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Malaysia, Mexico, Philippines, Poland, South Africa, and Thailand. These destinations offer everything from “safari and surgery” to “tropical, scenic tour” vacation packages. Dr. Goldenberg notes specific risks of such offshore offerings include:

· Vacation-related activities may compromise a patient’s health: Cosmetic surgery trips are marketed as vacations, but vacation activities should most definitely be avoided after surgery so that a patient can properly heal and reduce the possibility of complications

· Cosmetic surgery is real surgery: Every surgery, including cosmetic surgery, has some risks, which may increase when procedures are performed during cosmetic surgery vacations

· Travel combined with surgery significantly increases risk of complications: Traveling combined with surgery increase the risk of developing pulmonary embolism and blood clots and patients should wait five to seven days after body procedures such as liposuction and breast augmentation and seven to 10 days after cosmetic procedures of the face including facelifts, eyelid surgery, nose jobs, and laser treatments before traveling back home.

· Follow-up care and monitoring may be limited: Cosmetic surgery vacation packages provide limited follow-up care, if any, once the patient returns to the United States. Patients who have experienced a complication may find it hard to locate a qualified plastic surgeon to treat and correct the problem

· Bargain surgery can be costly: Patients can incur additional costs for revision surgeries and complications that may total more than the cost of the initial operation if originally performed in the United States

· Surgeon and facility qualifications may not be verifiable: Cosmetic surgery requires the proper administration of anesthesia, sterile technique, modern instrumentation and equipment, as well as, properly trained surgeons; many foreign facilities are privately owned and operated, making it difficult to check the credentials of surgeons, anesthesiologists and other medical personnel.

· Devices and products used may not meet U.S. safety standards: Cosmetic surgery products or devices used in other countries may not have been tested, proven safe and effective, or been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)

Always consult a licensed medical doctor or practitioner before undergoing any medical procedure. Always verify the licensing and quality practices and reputation of any hospital, clinic or other facility that you may be considering using for a medical procedure to insure that you will receive the highest quality medical care available.
